Two year olds are a busy group – physically and verbally! Our two year old program fosters critical relationship building that occurs at this age, supporting intellectual and social development. As their language skills develop, two year olds want to tell you everything. and they want to ask questions about everything. It is this curiosity that helps them develop into confident preschoolers.
In our two year old classrooms, manipulative toys are used to promote eye-hand coordination and develop fine motor skills. Teachers emphasize daily routines and social interaction through family style meals and other small group activities. Picture books, songs and skits are used to increase color, shape and number recognition. Children build with blocks, splash water in the water table, manipulate puzzle pieces, pretend to cook, and a myriad of other activities.
Teachers organize socio-dramatic play activities so children can dress-up and role-play. This develops new skills, such as problem-solving, self-care routines and conversation. Children are frequently read stories to build listening skills and are often asked to repeat the stories to develop memory recognition.
Music and art are key components of Bright Start’s program, at every age and stage of development. The children learn songs, listen to music, play instruments, dance, experiment with a variety of art mediums, and enjoy teacher led and interactive STEM experiments.
At this stage of development, it is also time to begin potty training. Each child develops and is ready for potty training on his or her own schedule and the teachers are mindful to encourage, but not push, the use of the potty.
To facilitate parental involvement, teachers provide daily reports to document and share the child’s experiences. You can expect photos and videos throughout the day.
